Plugins & (midi)tracks
He Raf,
Groeten Niels

I don´t understand it. I am from Germany. Please keep it in english ;-) when you have something to say (to me or to the rest).
This would be great, because I want to know what you have written to me:-) and what you will write in the future in this forum...!
greetings from germany and please translate your comment

Check the original forum, there is your anwser.
When it comes to technical questions i can not write them in english because i dont know some of the gramma, sorry.
I wil try to do as much english as possible.
Cheers O-c
Hi RAF,
Are you dutch or not, because of the questions.
Cheers Niels
Hi o-corner,
Yes, I speak Dutch, but because of our international members I choose to keep it in English. So let me translate your question:
Yo Raf,
I also have a question.
I work with Cubase and work a lot with Native instruments Battery.
Do you know how many instances of a vst-plugin can you use?
And if you use more than one, does this make any difference in the quality of the sound?
I also wonder how many midi-tracks you "have" to make? For instance, do you use one for your vocals, one for your beat, one for your up- downlifters, etc.
i know it can come in handy when making the final mix, but I feel you can loose your overview this way...
Personally I like to use only 4/5, but I once saw someone on youtube who used 5 track just for the beat!
What is your point of view on this?
Thank you in advance!
The amount of VST's you can use very depends on the (CPU) power of your computer, the power and latency of your soundcard and the specific VST you use. I have noticed with our system the Nexus can give problems after about 6 instances (failed to execute a new one, problems with loading some presets, etc), but on the other hand I can use as much instances of i.e. the Sylenth synth as I want I guess (tried 12).
But why would you want to use more instances of NI Battery? You can send every sample to an individual output (the amount of outputs are adjustable in it's setup) and you can use an almost endless amount of key-triggered samples with just one instance.
I have not experienced loss in sound quality due to more VST's. But than again, I guess this depends on your computer power and the latency of your soundcard. The more power you have, the more plugs you can use without having hick-ups etc.
We don't have a standard amount of channels we use. This very depends on the ingredients of the track. We almost always do use a separate kick-bus, base-bus, beat-bus and often a high-bus (mostly highhats etc). The other buses can be a lead(s)-bus, string-bus, toms-bus, FX-bus, vocal-bus, chorus-bus etc. (PS: In Cubase they speak of grouptracks)
With Cubase you can create folder-tracks to keep everything more organized. In this folder-track you can put multiple midi or audio tracks (and even automation tracks). And yes, also with us almost every beat we make contains at least 5 tracks, but often much, much more... :-D
But also keep in mind, there is no golden rule for producing. You just have to find a way of working that suits YOU best and what keeps you productive and creative.
Grtz,
RAF
He RAF,
Thanks for the translation, and ofcours for the response.
When it comes to; how to work with Cubase, O man where to start.
As you probbily know with Cubase you can do so manny things, that in my opinion if you didn't get a class or a workshop it's hard to find your way around.
So i followed a 3 day during producer class in Eindhoven by Mark van der Hurk. I did it just for the ''ins and outs'' and how to find your way around in cubase.
That definitely helpt me, otherwise i didn't think i could work with it. But i'm still working my way around.
So by that you will understand that if you say things like; an individual output, amount of key-triggered samples , my ears go, what?
I know what you meen, but where to find it and how to work with it, thats the point. But ill be positive and find my way around.
For sure ill find the answers, it's a matter of time
Again, thanks for the response, you'll definitely be haring for me again for some Questions
Grtz,
Niels
P.s if it's no to much trobble, can you listen to my auto remix, i know why i didn't go to the top ten so thats out of the question. But i'm still curious if i'm on a good track
when it comes to the technical part. If you don't feel like it, i understand
Hi Changeless,
Yeah, I do understand that working with Cubase can be though if you are new to it. I have the advantage of working with Cubase for over 20 years... I started with version 1.2 or something on my good old Atari and experienced its improvements of adding audio-tracks next to midi, the birth of VST and its plugins, grouptracks, foldertracks, etc, step by step. That really helps.
But please don't hesitate to contact me if something is unclear about what I explained, because I believe there only is one stupid question: the unasked one... ;)
Grtz,
RAF
Raf,
Cool to know you will be there. Thnxx for that..
